Carmel has everything you could possibly want for a romantic getaway and was noted by Travel+Leisure Magazine as one of the most romantic cities in the world. To say that Carmel is ahead of Florence, Italy and just surpassed by Paris and Venice, speaks volumes. Carmel-by-the-sea’s long, white sandy beach is cradled by quaint, cobblestone houses, all of which must incorporate the beloved Carmel sandstone in each design, making for a harmonious aesthetic, in every neighborhood.

The main street, Ocean Avenue, is lined with art galleries, high-end fashion, and even a few doggy boutiques (this being one of the most dog friendly places, on the West Coast). Having started as a getaway for starving artists and Bohemians, Carmel-by-the-sea has evolved into a high-class, shopping and dining mecca, that still nods to its artistic roots.

Get cozy at a bed and breakfast or stay at the historic Cypress Inn, co-owned by the famous Doris Day. Grab a booth seat in the low-lit, Oaxacan restaurant Cultura, then learn to Salsa dance with your partner, in the bar area, while sipping mezcal. Maybe grab a bottle of wine or cocktail at the swanky, new restaurant, 7D (short for Seventh and Dolores, the street corner it sits on). End your romantic evening with a show at the dreamy, gothic-style Sunset Center, where you can catch anything from a symphony to even Ziggy Marley.

If you feel like attending mass at one of the oldest mission’s in California, check out the Carmel Mission on Sundays. Lunch at Clint Eastwood’s renowned Mission Fields Restaurant, is also a must do in Carmel. You simply must take a long walk on Carmel River Beach. With a nostalgic mix of European romanticism and California sensibility, Carmel has something for any couple looking to escape back to simpler times where serenity and beauty make offer the unique opportunity for romance and lifelong memories.
